Almazara La Erilla. Interpretation Center – Oleotourism
To speak of La Erilla is to speak of Oleotourism. Located in the beautiful white village of Nigüelas, between the historic and millennial Nasrid Olive Grove—which boasts more than 20 varieties of olive trees—and the Almazara La Erilla, a monument built between the 12th and 15th centuries with an intact Nasrid heritage, considered one of the oldest in Spain. It is located 20 minutes from the capital of Granada and 25 minutes from the Costa Tropical, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park and on the edge of the gorges of the Torrente River. A museum of Olive Culture in Granada for OLEOTOURISM in a privileged enclave, putting Granada into every tasting.
It is the only olive mill that continues to open its doors with more than five centuries of useful life, showcasing the treasure preserved in its facilities and the history of the culture surrounding the olive tree and its oil; this is its best letter of introduction.
Currently, it is an Interpretation Center that features one of the best examples of presses known as “beam and quintal” (viga y quintal), which modernized the lever presses used in the 7th century BC. Its structure and machinery have been preserved to this day, mainly because it was in operation until 1942 and due to the Zayas Foundation’s commitment to the conservation of its heritage. All proceeds collected go towards the foundation’s social purposes.
To speak of the Almazara La Erilla is to speak of Oleotourism. It is a complete experience through a beautiful Mediterranean landscape, welcomed by a sea of centuries-old olive trees located in a typical Andalusian white village situated in the Sierra Nevada National Park. The location is accessible by highway from all points of the Granada geography. From this privileged enclave, we offer you the opportunity to discover and feel, through tasting, Olive Oil, our Liquid Gold, in all its nuances. We offer you the possibility to uncover all the secrets of Olive Oil: its history, traditions, customs, curiosities, and ancient production methods. Almazara La Erilla has become a national and international benchmark in Oleotourism, thanks to the large number of visits it receives.
