Founded in 1940, Coros y Danzas de Granada is one of the city’s most emblematic artistic institutions and a leading ensemble in the interpretation and presentation of traditional folklore on stage. With more than 85 years of uninterrupted activity, the group has established itself as a key institution in the preservation and promotion of Granada’s intangible cultural heritage. Its rigorous research, artistic excellence, and meticulous attention to musical, choreographic, and aesthetic detail distinguish an ensemble with a unique artistic identity and an internationally recognised reputation. Throughout its history, Coros y Danzas de Granada has given more than 2,300 performances across 41 countries, bringing Granada’s cultural heritage to stages around the world, from Japan to Puerto Rico and New York.

Its repertoire, comprising nearly one hundred traditional dances, offers a journey through the rich folk traditions of Granada, Andalusia, and other regions of Spain. The expressive power of dance and live traditional music is complemented by an exceptional collection of historical costumes, including original garments dating back more than 150 years.

Respect for original traditions goes hand in hand with an ongoing commitment to artistic creation and innovation. Original productions such as Danza andaluza and Ritmos demonstrate the ensemble’s ability to develop contemporary stage performances while preserving the essence and authenticity of its cultural roots.

Recognised as an association of national social interest in 1993 and a member of the Spanish Federation of Choir and Dance Associations (FACYDE), the ensemble holds a prominent place in Granada’s cultural life. Reflecting this commitment, Coros y Danzas de Granada has formally endorsed Granada’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2031, joining the city’s efforts to strengthen its cultural presence across Europe.

More than eight decades after its foundation, Coros y Danzas de Granada continues to bring the richness, character, and cultural identity of Granada to stages around the world, keeping tradition alive as a vibrant form of artistic expression.
